pcappdate. Video game developer Bungie is announcing that the unique PlayStation 4 weapon that will be launched for Destiny when the April update arrives is called the Zen Meteor and adds, for gamers, a new sniper option that will shoot flaming bullets.
The announcement was made by the official PlayStation account and offers an initial look at the weapons and some information about it, with a confirmation that this was not just an April 1 joke.
Zen Meteor is the result of a long-term partnership between publisher Activision and platform holder Sony and a new special strike will also be offered on the PS4 when the April 12 update arrives with new content for the entire social shooter.
When the original version of Destiny launched in late 2014 PlayStation 4 and PS3 players were able to pick up Hawkmoon, a solid hand cannon, and the same weapon was delivered to those playing on the Xbox One when The Taken King arrived one year later.
This might mean that Zen Meteor will be offered on other platforms before the end of this year when the paid expansion for the game will arrive.
Bungie is also offering a wide range of new rewards for gamers, introducing both a new Sterling Treasure mechanics that gives gamers more ways to pick up high-level gear and a new Chroma option to add more customization alternatives for those who want to make their Guardians unique.
Destiny is getting a new mission and strike
The development team has made it clear that the focus in the free April update is on Player versus Environment combat, which means that a new mission, called At the Gates, will arrive alongside a strike called Blighted Chalice.
Bungie is planning to offer more information about the tweaks it will make to the Crucible and the sandbox before the end of the week via live stream.
The April update for Destiny is seen as the social shooter's best chance to bring back some players who are no longer engaged because they were disappointed with the events that have been offered since last year and the fiddling with matchmaking that has taken place.
According to Activision, the social shooter remains of one of its most successful titles of the moment and a paid expansion for it, which does not yet have a name, will be offered before the end of the year.
A full sequel is also in development, and the plan seems to be to deliver it in 2017 on both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
