pcappdate. Now that the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) distribution has been released, and that the highly anticipated GNOME 3.18 desktop environment hit the streets with its numerous new and attractive features, the developers of Parsix GNU/Linux teased users on Twitter about the upcoming release of the Debian-based operating system.
Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 is the next major release of the distribution, and it will be dubbed Atticus, built around the recently announced GNOME 3.18 desktop environment. According to the Parsix GNU/Linux developers, the development for Atticus has started, and, most probably, it will arrive sometime later this year.
Considering the fact that Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 is based on Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie), the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 release should be based on second point release of Debian GNU/Linux 8. At the moment, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble) is built around the latest maintenance release of the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment.
Of course, this comes as very good news for all users of Parsix GNU/Linux, especially because the distribution was known for running older versions of the GNOME desktop environment. Apparently, the development process of Parsix GNU/Linux it accelerating substantially, as it now ships with kernel packages based on the latest long-term kernel branch, Linux 4.1 LTS. We'll keep you guys updated when the first build is online.
