pcappdate. The next flagship smartphone coming from Xiaomi, the Mi5, should arrive in the next few months, but definitely by the end of this year.
There have been many rumors concerning the technical specifications of the Xiaomi Mi5, but few have been confirmed by the Chinese company.
One of these rumors tipped the fact that the Mi5 might be coming with a powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor inside.
However, since Qualcomm announced the first smartphones powered by its Snapdragon 820 processor won't be coming until early 2016, the Mi5 couldn't have come with this particular chipset.
That's what popular leaker @Leaksfly claims, a new report confirms. Due to the fact that Xiaomi Mi5 will be launched this year, the smartphone won't be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor.
The Mi5 will be a powerful smartphone, priced surprisingly low
Instead, the cited source claims the Mi5 will be equipped with MediaTek's deca-core Helio X20 processor, which is powerful enough to be included in a flagship smartphone.
Even if this comes as a last-minute information, it shouldn't surprise anyone since Xiaomi wants to come forward with the Mi5 this year and Qualcomm doesn't have the Snapdragon 820 chipset ready until next year.
Obviously, we shouldn't rule out the possibility of getting another version of Xiaomi Mi5 with Snapdragon 820 processor inside, but that won't arrive until next year.
So, until then, Xiaomi fans will be able to grab the Mi5 powered by MediaTek's Helio X20 chipset with 10 cores inside.
Other highlights of the Xiaomi Mi5 include 4GB of RAM, 16 megapixel rear-facing camera, 3D fingerprint sensor, and full metal body.
It's also worth mentioning that according to the latest hearsay, Xiaomi Mi5 should be available on the market for around $315, which is hard to believe considering the phone's rumored specs.
